Key Enterprise Activities

Our role in the food value chain

Our Direct Impact From Farm to Package

At Wage Spices, our core work begins with aggregation, where we collect high-quality spices directly from smallholder farmers in their organized groups. We then move into food processing, transforming whole spices from their unroasted state into aromatic roasted versions and grinding them into fine powders. To ensure freshness reaches your kitchen, we handle packaging in spice jars, pouches, and sachets, followed by safe storage in boxes ready for distribution. Finally, we focus on trading by working closely with trusted distributors and wholesalers to get our spices to your table.

Empowering Farmers

Beyond processing, we are committed to training and education, teaching farmers to adopt permaculture and agroecology techniques that produce quality spices in a holistic, sustainable way. Through research and development, we constantly work on improving farmers’ livelihoods while creating products that support consumer health. Our community building efforts ensure farmers are supported in their groups and given fair prices, because we believe that a fair spice trade starts with empowered farming communities.

The Women Behind Wage Spices

Behind every jar of Wage Spice is a woman farmer. She wakes early. She walks to her field. She tends to her turmeric, her ginger, her coriander with hands that know the soil. She is a mother, a grandmother, a guardian of seeds passed down through generations. She is the heartbeat of Wage Spices.

We source over 75% of our raw spices directly from smallholder women farmers across Uganda. When you pay a woman fairly for her harvest, she does not just buy food. She sends her daughter to school. She saves for emergencies. She invests in her land. She lifts her entire community.

These women are not just our suppliers. They are our partners. They are the reason our spices taste like Uganda bold, honest, and full of life. And every time you cook with Wage Spices, you are cooking with her story.
